Plagiarism Screening
Plagiarism Screening
Irsyaduna: Jurnal Studi Kemahasiswaan is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are subject to plagiarism screening using Turnitin or other appropriate similarity-detection tools before proceeding to publication.
Similarity Threshold: Maximum 20%
Manuscripts are expected to have an overall similarity index of no more than 20%. However, the similarity percentage is not the sole criterion for determining plagiarism. Editors will also examine the nature, source, concentration, and context of the detected similarities.
What Constitutes Plagiarism?
Plagiarism occurs when authors use another person's words, ideas, data, arguments, interpretations, images, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment. Plagiarism may occur intentionally or unintentionally; therefore, authors are responsible for ensuring that all sources used in their manuscripts are properly cited.
Forms of plagiarism include, but are not limited to:
- Copying text from another source without proper citation or quotation;
- Paraphrasing another author's ideas without acknowledging the original source;
- Using data, figures, tables, images, or other materials without proper attribution;
- Presenting another person's ideas, arguments, or interpretations as one's own;
- Using fabricated, inaccurate, or misleading citations to conceal the original source; and
- Reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate citation or disclosure (self-plagiarism).
Citation and Paraphrasing
Authors must provide appropriate citations whenever ideas, information, arguments, methods, findings, or other scholarly contributions are derived from another source. Proper acknowledgment remains necessary even when the original material has been paraphrased or further developed by the author.
Paraphrasing should represent a genuine reformulation of the original source in the author's own academic language and should always be accompanied by an appropriate citation. Merely replacing several words or rearranging sentence structures does not eliminate the obligation to cite the original source.
Direct Quotations
When authors reproduce the exact words of another source, the text must be clearly presented as a direct quotation and accompanied by an appropriate citation in accordance with the journal's referencing style. Authors are encouraged to use direct quotations selectively and prioritize critical analysis and scholarly synthesis.
Self-Plagiarism and Text Recycling
Authors must not submit manuscripts that substantially reproduce their own previously published work without appropriate citation and disclosure. When previously published material is relevant to a new manuscript, the original publication must be properly acknowledged, and the new manuscript must provide a meaningful scholarly contribution beyond the earlier work.
Editorial Screening and Action
Similarity reports are evaluated by the editorial team and are not interpreted solely on the basis of a numerical similarity score. Editors may examine the location and concentration of matching text, the sources involved, the adequacy of citations, and whether the similarities indicate legitimate quotation, commonly used terminology, methodological expressions, or potential plagiarism.
Editorial decisions may include:
- Requesting clarification or revision from the author;
- Requesting correction of citations, quotations, or paraphrasing;
- Returning the manuscript for substantial revision;
- Rejecting a manuscript when plagiarism or serious academic misconduct is identified; or
- Taking appropriate post-publication action if plagiarism is discovered after publication.
Author Responsibility
Authors bear full responsibility for the originality and academic integrity of their manuscripts. Before submission, authors should ensure that all sources are accurately cited, direct quotations are properly identified, references correspond to the sources actually used, and the manuscript does not contain plagiarism, inappropriate text recycling, or other forms of academic misconduct.
Irsyaduna: Jurnal Studi Kemahasiswaan reserves the right to reject, withdraw acceptance, correct, retract, or take other appropriate editorial action when plagiarism or serious violations of publication ethics are identified, in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable scholarly publishing standards.
