Generative AI Policies

 

GenAI Policy Statement Urwatul Wutsqo: Jurnal Studi Kependidikan dan Keislaman permits the responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) provided that its use is transparent and remains under meaningful human supervision. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and ethical integrity of their manuscripts. GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
Permitted Use Limited use of GenAI is permitted under human supervision for:
  • Language editing, grammar checking, and translation;
  • Improving the clarity and readability of author-generated text;
  • Assisting with the organization and presentation of author-generated material;
  • Data visualization, provided that GenAI is not used to fabricate, alter, or manipulate research data or findings.
Authors must carefully review, verify, and take full responsibility for all AI-assisted output included in the manuscript.
Prohibited Use The following uses of GenAI are prohibited:
  • Fabricating research data, findings, evidence, participants, interviews, observations, quotations, or other research materials;
  • Generating or manipulating research findings that did not result from the actual research process;
  • Fabricating references, citations, quotations, DOIs, or other scholarly sources;
  • Presenting substantive AI-generated scientific content, arguments, analyses, interpretations, or literature reviews without appropriate disclosure and author verification;
  • Using GenAI as a substitute for the authors' scholarly judgment, critical analysis, or interpretation of research findings;
  • Uploading confidential, unpublished, sensitive, or personally identifiable information into GenAI systems without appropriate authorization;
  • Using GenAI to conduct peer review or make editorial decisions.
Disclosure Requirements Authors must include a "Generative AI Usage Statement" before the References section if GenAI was used beyond basic spelling and grammar checking.

"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL] for [PURPOSE OF USE]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed, verified, and edited the AI-assisted content and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript."

Basic spelling and grammar checking tools that do not generate substantive scholarly content do not require disclosure.
Author Responsibility The use of GenAI does not reduce or transfer the authors' responsibility for their work. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy and authenticity of research data, findings, analyses, interpretations, references, citations, and conclusions; the originality of the manuscript; compliance with plagiarism and copyright requirements; and the protection of confidential, sensitive, and personal information.
References and Citations Authors must independently verify all references, citations, quotations, DOIs, and other bibliographic information suggested or assisted by GenAI. AI-generated or fabricated references and citations are strictly prohibited. Authors are fully responsible for ensuring that every cited source exists, is accurately represented, and is relevant to the claims made in the manuscript.
Editors and Reviewers Editors and reviewers must protect the confidentiality and intellectual integrity of submitted manuscripts. Unpublished manuscripts, research data, participant information, or other confidential materials must not be uploaded to publicly accessible GenAI tools for peer review, manuscript evaluation, or editorial decision-making. GenAI must not replace the independent scholarly judgment of editors and reviewers.
Editorial Action Urwatul Wutsqo: Jurnal Studi Kependidikan dan Keislaman reserves the right to request clarification or additional information regarding the use of GenAI in submitted or published manuscripts. Undisclosed, misleading, unethical, or inappropriate use of GenAI may result in editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and applicable scholarly publishing standards.
