PERAN SPIRITUALITAS DALAM GERAKAN EKOLOGIS : KIPRAH PEREMPUAN SASAK MELESTARIKAN LINGKUNGAN DI LOMBOK TIMUR

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of spirituality in the ecological movement led by Sasak women in their efforts to preserve the environment in East Lombok. The spirituality in question encompasses Islamic religious values as well as local traditions that shape the community’s ecological ethics. This study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation within several women’s communities, such as religious study groups (majelis taklim), the PKK (Family Welfare Movement), and women’s farming groups. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research findings indicate that the spirituality of Sasak women serves as the primary foundation for their ecological behavior. Values such as trustworthiness, gratitude, simplicity, and the prohibition against causing harm encourage women to actively engage in waste management, water resource conservation, reforestation, and environmental education for their families. The integration of Islamic values and Sasak customs strengthens community-based ecological movements. Supporting factors include the role of religious leaders, women’s social solidarity, and local traditions, while barriers stem from a lack of environmental facilities, low levels of modern ecological literacy, and shifts toward a consumerist lifestyle. This study concludes that spirituality makes a significant contribution to shaping the ecological awareness and actions of Sasak women. These findings imply that an ecological movement rooted in local spirituality can serve as a relevant model for sustainable development in rural communities.
