STRENGTHENING RELIGIOUS MODERATION IN ISLAMIC EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS WITHIN BALI'S MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY

This study aims to analyze the forms, strategies, and implementation of strengthening religious moderation in Islamic educational institutions within the multicultural society of Bali. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design conducted at MAN 1 Jembrana and Pondok Pesantren Raudlatul Huffadz Bali. These institutions were purposively selected because they are located in a multicultural environment where the majority of the population is Hindu while maintaining harmonious interreligious relations. Research participants consisted of the principal, pesantren leader, teachers, educational staff, and students. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that strengthening religious moderation is implemented through the integration of moderation values into learning activities, institutional culture, exemplary leadership of educators, and harmonious social interaction with the surrounding community. The institutions also promote tolerance, mutual respect, dialogue, and appreciation of local culture as integral parts of students' character development. These practices contribute to creating an inclusive educational environment and demonstrate that Islamic educational institutions can serve as strategic agents in fostering social harmony and strengthening religious moderation within a multicultural society.
