Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as “rahmatan lil-‘alamin” from the perspective of divine protection granted to him against the harassment of his enemies, as reflected in the phrase “Rahmatan Lil Daf’ihi Nuzulul ‘Adabi ‘Ala A’ada-ihi.” This study focuses on an analysis of the book *Rahmatan lil-‘Alamin* by Sa’id bin Ali Al-Qahtani using a qualitative approach based on library research. Data were obtained from primary sources, including classical texts and literature on the Prophet’s biography (sirah nabawiyah), and supported by relevant secondary references. Research findings indicate that from the earliest stages of his life, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was under the protection of Allah (SWT), which manifested through various significant events, such as his safe upbringing, the opening of his heart (Shaqqus Shadr), and protection from the negative influences of Jahiliyyah society. This divine protection was also evident in his mission to spread Islam, where every act of rejection and hostility from the Quraysh was countered by Allah’s assistance, whether in the form of spiritual fortitude or physical safety. In fact, on several occasions, enemies who opposed the Islamic message suffered humiliation or punishment as a form of defense of His Messenger. Furthermore, this study affirms that the concept of rahmatan lil-‘alamin is not only interpreted as universal compassion but also encompasses the aspect of protection for truth and justice, including the rejection of oppression. Thus, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is not only a symbol of compassion but also a representation of divine justice in the face of opposition to the Islamic message. It is hoped that this study will contribute to enriching the understanding of the dimension of mercy in Islam, particularly in the context of education and the character development of the Muslim community.
