Abstract

This article aims to analyse quality improvement strategies, describe the implementation and organisation of quality management components, and identify the factors that support and hinder the improvement of educational quality at the Hidayatul Mubarok Islamic Boarding School. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through passive participatory observation, in-depth interviews with carers, educators, and staff, as well as a review of documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings indicate that strategic planning is carried out in a participatory manner through SWOT analysis to integrate the pesantren curriculum with national standards. Implementation was carried out through a functional division of labour between the madrasah and care units, as well as the utilisation of information technology. The main supporting factors were the Kyai’s transformational leadership and the pesantren’s economic self-reliance, whilst the main constraints included a shortage of dual-qualified educators and digital infrastructure in rural areas. Quality improvement management at the Hidayatul Mubarok Islamic Boarding School constitutes an adaptive governance model, which synergises the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) with spiritual values to produce outstanding and competitive graduates.
